He preferred working at night. Closed off in the upper room of the Crafter’s Hall, it provided the right amount of calmness and privacy he needed. Not really trying to hide anything, but the buzzy pivotal building of the Fort was no place for deep study and fine crafts during the day. Ilyas pushed the lantern on one side just slightly so that the flickering light illuminated his working table better. Turning his gaze back to the tome, he continue reading: “The Aura is the resonance of an object that is permanently enchanted.” The books he got from Emerald Eyes few night ago peaked his interest as soon as he flipped the first page. He did his fair share of runecrafting in the past, but it was always more of a “trial and error”, and often much more “error” than anything else. Many had mixed feeling about a strong Consortium presence at the Fort, but he for one was glad it is like it is. He never received any proper education or tutorship of any kind, really. Everything was always taught as he went, to the extent that what needed at the time, never really delving deep into the subject. This time, the knowledge is available, and he plans to take full advantage of it.
The book covered the basics and there were clearly other volumes, but he was content for a time. He pushed himself up and moved across the room to another workbench with a few gems laying on it. He first crushed the gems carefully, exposing their essence before he fixed the powders into rainbow-like mixture. Reaching into his pocket, he picked a small bone morium, infused with just the right amount of energies. He squeezed it in his hands firmly and for a brief moment, the morium glow in pure white light before he seemingly pushed it into the mixed gem powder. The momentary flash of light was blinding, but as his pupils adjusted, he saw the final result. An dark, obsidian-like gem was left at the table in front of him. His lips curved slightly, as the happiness forced a smile on his face.
He reached for an exceptionally made iron-coil ring he prepared before: shaped as a snake, biting his own tail, the ouroboros. He polished the rune and fit it as the eyes of the snake before sliding it on his finger.
“One has to start somewhere…”
