Edward Mason

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played: Yes.

Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two: MMORPGs and table tops.

Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard? I enjoy roleplaying, and expect a good environment to do so.

What will your character’s name be?: Edward Mason

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features: Edward, an Easterner by birth, stands at an average height of five-foot-ten, with short brown hair, and equally dark eyes. His complexion is dark, but not enough to mark the man's peculiar lineage. Mason usually takes to wearing neutral tones, with which it is easier to hide the fact that his clothes are not in pristine condition, and a lack of rings, torcs, or jewelry of any kind indicates that he is not a man of skill or wealth. In fact, what equipment he does possess appears in rough shape, salvaged and pieced together out of necessity rather than design.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:

Survival, first and foremost.

Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):

Edward spent much of his youth exposed to the horrors of the world. His father, James, was widowed, thus forced to raise the boy and his two younger sisters on his own. And so, it fell to Edward to help raise his sisters. Often, Edward and James, would leave the farmstead to hunt. It was a safe haven, for as long as they remained vigilant -- but, they were poor farmers. James had been a scout for the Tenth Exploratores Auxilia, a local militia turned official by the Legion to supplement its forces along the borders. A grievous injury that left James without his left arm ended that career. It was through this loss that Edward would gain personal attention and rigorous training in the use of the longbow. Not only in matters of hunting, but in survival as well. James believed that his son would need these skills to provide for the Mason family in the future.

And such a thought would prove right.

Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:

Edward Mason stood in line, a dun-colored cloak, tattered and used hanging from his thick shoulders. To his right, Tabitha -- held a quiver of arrows, and his left, Jenna, clutched a collection of furs. It was a long wait to see the Officiant, but one that they needed to endure. You see, the farmstead had been burned down, and their father missing. Edward believed it to be mercenaries, looking for an easy score. Edward, now in his early thirties, followed their trail northeast, which led to the Rumbling Pass. Yet, they had no visa to provide the officials, and further, no coin with which to "purchase" such a visa. So, they would make do with what they could. Edward offered to hunt, collecting fresh meat, poultry, and small game, and Tabitha would treat the leathers, fletch new arrows, whilst Jenna cooked and tended to any clothing that was in ill-repair. It was not much, and likely wouldn't have gotten even one of the Masons through the pass had it not been for a legionnaire who had taken to Jenna's tender... heart. It was quick to blossom, one that Edward knew could end poorly if Jenna did not satisfy the soldier for long, but it was a choice that his youngest sibling made of her own accord, and it was one less mouth he had to feed. In the end, if they were to find his Father, they might need a contact inside the garrison, and better his sister than some stranger bought with coin. Tabitha, on the other hand, caught the eye of another, and for a different reason it would seem. Matthew, a craftsman, was looking to set up shop in the Fort and needed someone with a good hand for curing and preparing leather. He offered to take her on as his apprentice, and to pay her a small stipend along with room and board. Again, Edward was pleased by the turn of events. It was impossible to know that Matthew or the Legionnaire, would not make it through the year, and his sisters would suffer for their short-found windfall, but as they say, ignorance is bliss, and when that time did come, hopefully they would find their brother capable of protecting them once more. But that... that is a story for another time.

Edward, through his sister's contacts, and his service to the garrison at the Rumbling Pass, finally managed to acquire a visa, and it was on this day that the Ranger offered his papers to the customs official, hoping to see his way through to the front gates of Fort Praesidium, and then swiftly into the wilds beyond.

The guard sniffed heavily, eyes red and sullen, as he looks over the paperwork. Be it drugs or illness, you have a hard time telling, but the thought of making contact with this man in either case sets your hairs on end. He sniffles again, bulging his eyes out afterward, as if to help keep him awake, staring at the paper. He hands it back without a word, waving you through, and motioning the next to come forward with a cough.

The other guard on duty seems to share your discomfort in the situation and takes a noticable step away from the man, giving you an even wider lane to which to walk. You step through the gate and behin your journey since you've been....
