Kylana Steel Application

Post by redcrayon » November 23rd, 2018, 7:47 am

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
N/A

Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two:
I have 18 years of roleplaying experience, starting in short RP arcs in games like Star Trek: Elite Force before finding Neverwinter Nights in 2004. I’ve roleplayed a variety of characters across many settings there ever since.

Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard?
My expectations are wide open, I am hopeful for a roleplaying experience full of intrigue, with diverse story and challenge for my character. I was recommended to come and play by my good friend Ghost4Life.

What will your character’s name be?: Kylana Steel

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features: Kylana is a pretty young woman, appearing to be late teens to early twenties at first glance. She has firey red hair and eyes of such a deep sapphire blue that they almost shine violet in certain light. She stands at a short 5 feet and 2 inches in height, and is of a slim build, though not emaciated by any means. One would guess that her background was one of wealth, or at least relative abundance. She speaks with a simple turn of phrase, and her voice lilts gently as she does.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Hailing from a fortified Barony untouched by The Torment, Kylana is the daughter of the Baron and Baroness. Ever hopeful of an end to The Torment, her parents tried to give her a life that was as normal as it were possible to have. She was sheltered from the outside evils, only vaguely aware of the problems outside the walls, and wholly ignorant to the severity. In her youth, her parents commissioned a tutor to provide her with an education, but unbeknownst to them, he was a seeker of the Occult. Alongside her usual lessons, she was given additional lessons in secret; lessons of Magery. Over time, the young Kylana was drip fed secrets of power, as well as an education on what life was really like outside of the safe haven of the Barony.
Now a young woman, Kylana feels that she cannot live her life away confined to one space, safe and secure while others suffer and die. Along with the passing of time came the passing of her tutor. With him gone, she felt there was little holding her to this place, and in order to broaden her mind and make a difference, she must leave. In the dead of night, she leaves the Barony with a bag packed and a need to make a change suffusing her soul. The best place to start? First Province.

Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):
Kylana lived a sheltered life,. Though knowledge of the terrors plaguing the world came to her over time, she had never experienced nor seen it first hand. She is gifted in the magical arts, but she is unaware of the scope of the situation in the wider world, and feels she is prepared for what it has in store. She is not.

Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:
You have finally arrived at your destination; the Rumbling Pass checkpoint. Before you stands a massive outpost, looking to have been erected only recently, of which is patrolled by numerous Legionnaires and Church Templar. The outpost guards the only viable entrance to the recently quarantined First Province; the home of Tor, the fallen capital of the Republic. Sitting at the foot of the massive mountain line that effectively contains the First Province within, the outpost serves as the last obstacle you must overcome before gaining entry into the quarantined territory. You and others like you assemble outside of the palisades of the outpost, awaiting the opportunity to speak your case to the presiding Legion officiant who is processing admittance to the Province.
You watch as but a scant few of the dozens that approach the officiant, whom stands at the outer gates of the outpost flanked by a few heavily armored Legionnaires, are actually allowed to pass through the man-door and into the outpost. You see some slip pieces of gold to the officiant, while others plead their cases and rationale as to why they should be allowed to enter the recently fallen territory. Some appear to provide some sort of paperwork to the officiant, whom promptly waves them through. While eavesdropping, you manage to overhear the well-rehearsed speech the officiant provides to those whom don’t provide paperwork or grease his palm.
“By decree of the Venerated Church, the First Province is considered to be a mortal health hazard, and as such, is quarantined under Article Eighteen of the Republic Treatise of Health Act of 1320. Citizens who do not possess a Quarantine Visa issued by one of the recognized Factions of the Republic are considered non-essential to the reclamation of the First Province. Under Article Eighteen, non-essentials seeking entry into an official quarantine zone must petition for entry into a said zone, and state just cause for the issuing of a visa by the perimeter authority. State your business and make it good, citizen; we’ve enough bodies in there to keep us busy for months without adding yours to the pile.”
You ponder the situation for a moment, evaluating your options. It’s well known that with the right connections and the right amount of coin, one can get their hands on a Quarantine Visa from any one of the major Factions of the Republic, or even a passable counterfeit from more nefarious sources. At the same time, it would appear that the officiant doesn’t appear to be above some simple bribery. However, you’re sure that some of those let in appeared to have made a convincing case with the officiant. Gathering your wits, you make your decision as to how to gain access to the First Province.

Kylana grits her teeth, considering this latest obstacle as she takes in the scene around her. The first thing she notices is the smell. How long has some of these people been here? Or was it coming from within? The rest of her senses catching up, she pays attention to the speech of the officiator and considers her options.
Settling down in a secluded corner, Kylana opens her pack, taking out a shortsword she is entirely untrained with, and strapping it to her right thigh. Best to look the part here. She pushes back her travelling cloak, displaying the blade and meanders into the crowd. The desperate pleas of those too injured from the journey, too obviously under-prepared or too poor to bribe fill her ears, and she focuses to filter them out. Her bright eyes scan the crowd, looking for- yes! There it is! Down below waist height, in one swift movement, a coin purse and an envelope are quickly exchanged, with both packages being hurriedly concealed beneath the cloaks of the respective participants of the exchange.
She follows the man walking away with the coins, and taps him lightly on the shoulder. “Mh?” He turns to her, eyeing her up and down. “What’cha want, girlie?”
Kylana fights her natural reaction to recoil from the smell of alcool on his breath, and forces a smile. “I want what it is that you supply.” she said, locking gazes with the man.
A look of anger begins to crease his brow, but in a swift move Kylana dislodges the only thing of true value she’d brought on her trip with her; a necklace of gold set with a sapphire, from under her tunic. He gestures her out of the crowd.
“Name?” was all he said.
“Kylana Steel” she replied.
“Mh. Meet me here in an hour.”
Some time later, down one necklace but up one set of quality forgeries, Kylana approaches the officiant, flashing the papers. With a nod and a grunt, she is ushered past him. Now she stands before the gates, awaiting their opening, waiting to see what she had just let herself in for.
