History: Ever a man of Faith, Tradition, and Loyalty to the Venerated Republic, Septimus Valente, the patriarch of the family, expected all his sons to spend some years in service of the Legion in order to learn some of the hard lessons of life which would be difficult to impart under the comforts and luxury of the Valente Household. The Valentes had amassed a fair bit of wealth by producing and supplying the Legion with explosive materials, and the Apothecary Corps with highly refined medicinal extracts from the flora and fauna throughout all of Eden.

The oldest of the family, Severus, was the pride of the patriarch. From an early age, Severus had demonstrated a remarkably sharp mind - which coupled with his generally serious nature, made him appear older than his years. This was further compounded by his unusual height and athletic talents, which made the fast learning child able to quickly and easily become a highly skilled duelist through formal training with some of the best private instructors in Tor, where the family resided.

During his time in the Legion, his skill, discrete nature and keen attention to detail earned him the position of commanding an elite unit of Speculatore who were sent on a variety of clandestine missions under the auspices of internal security for the Republic. The unit would frequently conduct reconnaissance on potential and emerging threats to the Republic, and at times would be tasked with the grim duty of eliminating those threats quickly and quietly - as was the case with suspected Resolvist sympathizers or agents. His commanders held Severus in sufficiently high esteem as to allow him to hand-pick from amidst the recruits and rank & file members of the Legion - who would serve and train in his unit.

He was near the conclusion of his service with the Legion, ready take up a position of leadership in his family as his father's hand-picked successor when the unimaginable happened. Tor, the majestic Capital of the Venerated Republic, quickly and seemingly without warning - descended into chaos as the Torment overtook the city. The entire city and presumably his family, friends and comrades in arms who were still in garrison would be consumed during the Fall.

In truth, Severus does not know what befell his family, his friends or his unit. The only person from his past who he still hold ties with is his wife Ovelia, who was then his secret lover and a member of his Speculatore unit. They would flee the Fall together in a desperate bid to survive the aftermath, and would marry while on the run with some aid from a clergyman who's life they had saved along the way.
