Requiem Shard

I have noticed, in fighting some Mundane Cultist, that they also produce these secondary lightning strikes -- which is wicked cool. My observation is, however, that these secondary strikes appear to hit their "friends" as well which causes the mobs to fight each other. Is this intended?
