I may be mistaken but I do not believe Artifacts can be researched. A master copy would have a lower percentage than the chance to get an epic recipe I'm sure. Nighstalker II does not give you double, or even any bonus steps at night.

That inability to jump from 0-100 is the whole point. There is too much room for abuse with stored animus, you could make a full crafter and store animus until they could just suddenly become a full mage or warrior.

Or mayhaps a long-term solution. Once you've crafted something X times you gain the ability to craft it whenever. After 50-100 times crafting it you retain the knowledge.
