STATEMENT: The Teneborough Assembly

Post by Kent » May 30th, 2021, 3:41 pm

Cleanly cut broadsheets are posted throughout fort praesidium as well as in the common cross-roads of the accessible parts of the First Province. A neatly folded envelope containing this very same document is sent by courier to the First Torian outpost.

STATEMENT BY THE TENEBOROUGH ASSEMBLY

30th of Flowerbloom, 1346.

The Assembly of Teneborough has received a communication from the Junta of the First Torians et al, as posted late in the evening of the 29th of Flowerbloom and is convinced that its reply will dissipate any misunderstanding which threatens to destroy the perpetual peace and friendship that has existed between all rightwise citizens of the republic in the First Province since the influx of new visa approvals in Thawmist.

This broadsheet of demands has been reviewed by the Governing Body of Teneborough and it has made a deep and painful impression upon them. The Assembly was distressed and surprised to see the implication that Teneborough was home to a fugitive from Justice and therefore wishes to offer clarification to the First Torian’s and any other person or persons who may be concerned. An investigation has been performed revealing the following facts & assertions

In Regards to the Material Facts of the Incident

I

Highfield was built principally upon the labor of noted Carpenter, Jakell Wormwood.

II

By the traditions & Law of the republic, he which creates or builds a thing is generally accepted to have ownership of it except in those cases as determined otherwise by the Holy Mother Church.

III

As possessor of the buildings constructed upon that gated community, Jakell Wormwood and his associates were within their rights to do with it as they pleased so long as it was mutually agreed upon by all good-standing residents of the community as determined by the landlord (Jakell Wormwood)

IV

The conditions in item III were met at the time of the conflagration.

In Regards to the Legality of these Actions & Any Possibility of Fugitive Status

It is the determination of this Governing Body after due consideration and investigation that the following legal conclusions be made:

I

Pursuant to the Laws of Teneborough and the Venerated Republic, no criminal action or other tort has occurred. All referenced articles are from the Articles of Association of Teneborough, copies of which are publicly posted and freely available in Teneborough. The privileges enumerated therein are respected of any individual, irrespective of residency within Teneborough.
II

As enumerated in Article I, the Governing Body shall not respect any law outside of those specifically enumerated by legitimate Republic officials/sources. Jakell Wormwood’s conflagration of the gated community of which he was Landlord falls under a “ … an individual’s ability to voice their opinions, beliefs, or thoughts” as it was performed as a statement against despotism and bullying.

III

As enumerated in Article VI, “ The Assembly shall make or no law abridging the free trade of objects, skills, thoughts, or ideas”. As Jakell Wormwood built Highfield, it was his to do with as he wished ultimately insofar as his actions did not cause bodily harm to any person. This situation is no different than the case of a blacksmith who smelts down a blade he has created.
IV

It is known to the Teneborough Assembly that pain of death is the generally employed punishment by the First Torian’s, and also that legal proceedings overseen by them are generally kept secretive and behind closed doors. Therefore unless especial provisions are made it would be in violation of our law to surrender any individual to the custody of the First Torian pursuant to Articles II and III.

In Regards to the Presumably Earnest Belief that a Criminal Act has Occured.

It is the pleasure of the Assembly of Teneborough to invite the First Torian et al to bring these allegations up as a tort to a court that may be held in Fort Praesidium, with an impartial and neutral judge, mutually agreed upon, to preside. It is the suggestion of this Assembly that if such a thing is desired that Kaelius Mercantile & Acquisitions provide such a judge. If a trial by jury is desired, a jury pool may be selected by this Judge from the Peers of the involved parties, namely those noted leaders of men & women in the First Province such as Miss Patricia Woods and others if such a thing may be arranged.

Furthermore, Renatus & Thrupp Enterprises extends the offer to provide financial compensation for the loss of any materials Highfield provided to the First Torian.

A final Statement with Regards to any Potential Violent Actions.

Any acts of violence upon residents or associates of Teneborough shall be met with rightwise self-defense. No resident of Teneborough has ever fired a shot in anger nor caused any bodily harm of any sort to any member of the First Torian et al
