New Application for Loop Lilagree

Post by loop » February 27th, 2021, 12:14 am

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
No.
Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two:
Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard?

I've played UO since the Second Age. I still play the commerical servers and have played numerous free shards over the years. I want to experience a unique take on UO.
What will your character’s name be?:

Loop Lilagree.
Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
Skinny and small in stature. Bearded. Hair in two tails. Decidedly less-than-average in looks.
Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:

In a time of darkness, Loop has been employed to bring mirth and laughter to the First Province. With his lute and humor, he will cure the spirits of the men and women -- but mostly the women.
Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):
So terrible was Loop's lute playing that at a young age rumors spread throughout his village that he had sacrificed his soul to some ancient evil in exchange for his talent...
Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:
Upon being questioned by the officiant, Loop strikes a chord with his lute. And another! And then another! The officiant covers his ears. "I don't get paid enough for this!" he exclaims. He snatches Loop's visa and stamps it without looking.

We will need to know a bit more about your backstory before we can accept your application. Please expand on it a bit.

We will also need a bit more out of your roleplay response before accepting your application. Please continue the roleplay scenario by responding to the following RP prompt:

The officiant goes to hand the visa back but pauses, eyeing the lute. He had heard of people smuggling all sorts of illegal contraband into the province and a lute would be the perfect vessel. His hideous playing the perfect distraction. "A moment. I'll need to examine that before you can pass." He motions to the lute you hold then extends a hand to take it.

So terrible was Loop's lute playing that at a young age rumors spread throughout his village that he had sacrificed his soul to some ancient evil in exchange for his talent... but what ancient evil could have possibly found his little hamlet of a hometown notable enough to haunt?

One day misfortune befell the town's mayor in the form of blindness and genital lesions. Loop's constant public disruptions, his discordant strumming in the streets at all hours of the night, had finally disrupted the statesman's humors to such an extent that one stress-induced pustule after another began to spread. He called for the town priest who validated his suspicion: it must be a curse, and who else but the boy who plays the devil's music?

As the bloodthirsty populace of the town began to gather in search of the lute-playing witch, Loop sought refuge with a band of traveling minstrels with whom he had performed at the prior night's fair. Together they traveled on, teaching Loop the ways of the lute and more scandalous affairs.

The officiant grabs the lute and tilts it from end to end. It gives a rattle. There's definitely something in there. Loop winces with each motion of the lute. "Nervous, eh?" the officiant goads. "What have you got in there? Some nightshade for poisoning? Some ale you've smuggled across province lines?" He gives a mighty jostle of the lute, and out tumbles something unexpected: "What's this?" the officiant shouts. "A tiny lute?"

Loop snatches it. "Of course! It's Loop's lute's lute. Every professional carries a spare!"

Exasperated, the officiant lets out a heavy sigh. "This clown show's gone on far enough. Away with you!"

Congratulations, adventurer! Your application is...

Approved!

Please ensure that your character name is spelled correctly upon exiting the Songmaker's chambers. A GM will approve your character at their earliest convenience.

Welcome to Requiem!

The officiant was lucky he had faced this man in this battle of wits on his own turf. If the man had been allowed to dictate the terms the officiant feared he would have never recovered from the shame. At least here he could send him away quickly and save a bit of face. The officiant clings desperately to his last sliver of dignity as he sends you through.
