Application for Elspeth Wood

Post by Domna » April 20th, 2022, 1:19 pm

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
Yes. Aemilia Drusilla currently.

Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two: Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard?
I have played on countless online forums, several UO shards, and in a couple DnD tabletop games. I like horror themes and deep stories, so I am hopeful that Requiem will be a good venue for it.

What will your character’s name be?:
Elspeth Wood

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
Her bouyant copper hair spirals into wild curls that cascade down her back. The Athaerun native is wiry and shorter than the average woman in her twenties. Although her smile is not unpleasant, her bottom row of teeth suffers from crowding. When her hair is drawn back away from her face and she is dressed in heavy layers, she appears androgynous. Hidden under her clothes, she wears a pendant necklace bearing the emblem of Sacrifice. Her skin is pale and flecked with light freckles most concentrated on her shoulders, and her eyes are blue.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Elspeth was supposed to deliver a wagon of armaments for Clemens Fulgentius, one of the Prelacy family members from Athaerun who had left for the First Province in service to the Republic after the fall of Tor. Her loyalty wasn’t enough to make a successful mission there and back.

Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):
Elspeth Wood’s family had served the Fulgentius family for three generations, but their bloodline could be traced back to the tribes of Athaerun. When they became part of the Decusian Empire, their family were among the first to embrace the religion so whole-heartedly that they became clerical people. They were most commonly priests. That was the function of Elspeth’s family in the sprawling estate of the Fulgentius family. She was born shortly before her father renounced his wife and his family in order to submit his life entirely to priesthood. His sacrifice was rewarded with elevation in the Church of Decus.

Elspeth had a fine childhood. Her mother was a baker who volunteered most of her days at the local chapel. Her twin brothers followed in their father’s footsteps to pursue priesthood. Elspeth had grown particularly close to the children of the Fulgentius family, and as she grew with them, she became a trusted servant. She tended to their wardrobes, served meals, assisted with baths, and organized festivals and rituals. She was given a handsome allowance and a bed in the villa. Her loyalty to the family gave her everything she needed to survive even while the lesser houses fell to the affliction plaguing the province.

Clemens Fulgentius left for the First Province to help reclaim it once Tor fell as was his duty. It was Elspeth’s duty to deliver him and the honorable men who had left Athaerun with him a wagon full of armors, weaponry, and explosives created by the experts of their township. They buried the tools of war beneath the baked goods prepared by Elspeth’s mother in case they were intercepted by bandits, and they traveled in just a pair. Elspeth and a veteran in his fifties. Her companion’s name was Euan Mac Iain Uidhir. They had a nag by the name of Hash to pull the wagon. By the time they reached the Rumbling Pass Checkpoint, everything had gone wrong. Hash could barely walk and Euan was so ill with pneumonia that he was separated from Elspeth by the doctors there. The wagon was seized by the soldiers.

Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:
Her coat pockets were stuffed with all the armaments she could save from the wagon before it had been seized. Euan had already been escorted out of sight and into the tent of the doctors of the Apothecary Corps. She expected that the gunshot she had heard minutes before had been for Hash, who had grown lame and been taken away by a soldier. Everything had fallen apart in the past ten minutes for Elspeth Wood, and then she stood before an officiant who openly proclaimed the dangers of the quarantine zone she sought to enter. She was too stunned by the last minutes’ losses to fully heed the warning.

“Ah hae come haur under orders ay th’ Prelacy. Mah nam is Elspeth Wood, haur tae deliver armamen’s tae Clemens Fulgentius,” she told the officiant. She didn’t have her wits enough about her to slow her words and mend her accent. Her pale fingers numbly held the signed order from the Fulgentius family. She didn’t even feel the parchment slide free of her grip when the officiant took it from her.
