Application for Vekuzz (Second char)

Post by Sindelar » May 19th, 2022, 11:52 pm

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played: Cornelius Sindelar

What will your character’s name be?: Vekuzz

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
The dark figure that stands before you looks to be in their 40’s. Despite the man’s age, his body resembles that of a youthful man, well into his prime. Measuring to a height of 5’11”, he carries himself with militaristic fashion and discipline. His face has been well aged and portrays evidence of beauty that has been long-forgotten. His square jaw is accompanied by an unmanaged stubble, sporting colors of black and gray. His keen blue eyes seem rather uncharacteristic, as they emit emotions of sorrow and pain.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Find work and meet up with his old friend.
Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):
Vekuzz started his journey in a rather lively fishing town, along the coast of the Westlands. His childhood could be summarized as a comfortable one. As Vekuzz grew to be a young man he started his own family within that same village. To support his new family, Vekuzz acquired an assortment of different jobs. Ranging from fisherman to feces-shoveler. Job after job, he always found himself without a means of sufficient income. As Vekuzz was nearing the age of twenty-eight, he decided he needed a more permanent means of employment, and enlisted within the village’s militia.

Vekuzz filled the role of militiaman quite well. Even though the majority of his brothers-in-arms were at least a decade younger than him, they worked well together. Thus, the men began referring to him as “The Old Man”, a jest in nature but a title that was respected.

As another decade passed, Vekuzz was creeping upon his 38th birthday. By now, Vekuzz had experienced enough combat to be considered an able swordsman. Vekuzz proceeded to climb within the ranks, earning himself the commissioned-title of Sergeant. His duties involved training and overseeing new recruits. Vekuzz’s life was comfortable, even though his wife had died of disease, he had a respected and well-paying job, and was a proud father to a son. Dijanho, Vekuzz’s son, enlisted within the militia, attempting to follow within his father’s footsteps. Vekuzz was skeptical at first, but knew the potential his son bore and accepted him under his mentorship. Vekuzz displayed no special treatment or sympathy for his son whilst training, as he was aware of the resentment that favoritism created.

The sun was setting and the end of Vekuzz’s shift was about to approach. It had been a long day for him and his recruits, and one last patrol was scheduled before their release. Sergeant Vekuzz approached his men, a genuine smile resting upon his aged features.

“Ight gentlemon, ya don gud taday. We jus’ be needin’ one las’ volunteer ta go patral da eastern gate. Den we be on our way home ta da families.” As the Sergeant spoke, all the recruits exchanged glances in curiosity as to who would be chosen. With a crisp smirk, Vekuzz shouted,

“Ight den, nay any takers? Private Dijanho it be yo lucky day. Patral da eastern gate and raport back ta me.” With a displeased sigh, Dihanho responded,

“Right away Sarge.” before taking his leave. The rest of the men continued to finish up their duties and all was routine, until a large explosion coming from outside the eastern gate was heard. Vekuzz perked up at the sound, and rallied his men. As they gathered at the scene of the explosion, three hooded figures stood over the charred corpse of Dijanho. Vekuzz’s dark face turned a rather pale shade before he drew his scimitar and charged at them . Without hesitation his men followed suit, drawing their arms and charging in behind their leader. As the distance between the two parties shortened, one of the hooded figures flashed Vekuzz a sinister smile before mumbling several words in an ancient dialect. Before Vekuzz could take another step, a massive ball of fire was casted towards his direction. Vekuzz had less than a second to react, jumping aside just in time. He had just avoided certain death but his companions did not, as they were lit ablaze; each screaming a horrible tune before their charred remains hit the cold soil. As Vekuzz glanced back to the horrific scene, the three hooded figures exchanged a few glances, followed by a series of nods. Vekuzz picked up his scimitar and turned to avenge his fallen men, but to his own surprise the three heathens had vanished.

A widower and a father to a murdered son, Vekuzz found no further reason to stay within that small fishing village. He settled his affairs and departed for a life of wandering. In his travels he was introduced to a rather charismatic character, who was a self-proclaimed freedom fighter. Vekuzz decided to join his band of mercenaries, utilizing his experience he fit right at home with these freedom fighters. This line of work allowed Vekuzz to be distracted from his past, at least for a couple of years.Though, through the eventual betrayal from a wealthy client, the mercenary band suffered irrecoverable losses and soon disbanded. Thus, Vekuzz was subjected to wandering Eden once again.

Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:
The long journey to the Rumbling Pass had finally come to an end. Vekuzz squinted as he glanced back from where he arrived. The sun had turned orange in its setting, its rays illuminating the First Province like a heaven-sent message. As Vekuzz threaded through the encampment the smell of piss and shit penetrated his senses, conjuring memories of days spent on the battlefield.

“The First Province offers the chance for a new life, wealth, and glory. A place so majestic, you’d have to be simple to pass on.” These were the rumors Vekuzz heard from bards and travelers alike. To his own surprise, he was not amused by the reality of the Rumbling Pass. Beggars, thieves, and vagabonds filled the encampment, each staking a claim as their own. As the day grew to a close and the sun disappeared, the legionnaires locked the entrance gates and left their stations for the night. Vekuzz saw this as an opportunity to set up camp and catch up on some well needed rest.

Vekuzz stared into the campfire, his mind returning to days long ago. The memories of his lost family began to race through his thoughts, before a rather young man approached Vekuzz.

“Hey there mate, I see you got yourself a nice sword there.” The young man said with a toothy grin. As Vekuzz averted his gaze from the fire to meet with that of the man’s, two other boys no older than eighteen, joined the pair.

“I cun assure ya, dis blade here ain’t be worth the trouble lads.” Vekuzz spoke with a rather collected tone. The trio exchanged several glances before the ringleader spoke again.

“Well trouble be our business, now hand it over or else Tommy and Luke here are gonna make you regret ever leaving your rocking chair for the First Province, old timer.” As the young man spoke, both of his accomplices unsheathed their daggers and pointed their blades towards Vekuzz. As the men slowly approached Vekuzz he let out a light sigh, followed by a dry chuckle.

“So be it.” The words softly left Vekuzz’s chapped lips before he swiftly threw his cloak upon the fire, extinguishing it immediately. The night’s shadow covered the scene, blinding the assaulters and leaving them in turmoil.

“Wh-where is he?! Tommy? Luke?” The ringleader shouted in fear. No response was heard, besides that of a series of grunts followed by the clattering of a dagger hitting the ground.

“Fuck this, let’s get out of here boys!” The ringleader shouted in fear as he attempted to scurry away, tripping over his own feet in the process. As the three boys ran off they left a rather interesting selection of items behind. Vekuzz lit his lantern and examined the remains of the scuffle. He picked up the dagger and sheathed it carefully within his boot. Next to the dagger was a rather faded piece of paper; Vekuzz picked up the paper and attempted his best effort to read its contents.

“Cora...Corytin Veesa.”

The following day, Vekuzz arrived at the entrance gates at first light. As he approached the legionnaire he offered him a welcoming smile and his newly-acquired visa. The guard skeptically examined the visa before handing it back.

“About time you made it, we’ve been expecting you! My regards to Redholme Doctor Sindelar.”
