Azazel Rhine

Post by Liquid » December 20th, 2021, 10:22 am

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
Yes, I currently play. Luka and formerly Jack Tylon (RIP)
Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two:
Been rping on UO and some DND here and there.
Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard?
Last bastion of true UORP, plus grimdark.
What will your character’s name be?:
Azazel Rhine
Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
35 YO, 76 Inches Tall, nearly 18 Stones large, Body is heavily scarred from what appears to be ritualistic torture. Has relatively plain facial features.
Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Azazel is being sent to the first province by his cultist leader to enact vengeance on the death of a fellow cultist. His duties are to discover all the details surrounding the death. If it is determined someone or something is at fault - kill them. If successful, he will be set free to do as he wishes. (Random NPC zealot used as backstory, no player involved.)

Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):

He wears an engineered jaw mask which prevents him from speaking, a small sliding hole in the front to prevent death from starvation or thirst. Must consume mostly liquids as his jaw does not open wide enough to chew properly.

Azazel was born into a cultist world, which zealot methods are shunned heavily for their brutality and lack of moral empathy - due to the nature, most if not all take a direct vow of silence in public, either willingly or forcefully. Colors are important in his 'religion' - each color worn has a specific meaning for the member of the cult.

Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:

'Astir, wrap the man in thorns as we prepare the ritual of bonding'. - A man stood above them all in a dimly lit underground area, old stonework lined the walls and pillars. Several elder men began to wrap Azazel in thorn bushes, tightly squeezing the white robes.

The elder man begins to recite as those on the outer circle chant in a bellowed voice. 'To one, whom taketh away his own freedoms. I bestow to you a chalice of life. To you, who follow in their footsteps - you may drink of this chalice...' The man turns the page in an old book lined in runes. 'As the call of above commanded the first, it command you - seek not vengeance for the sake of vengeance - but to right the wrongs which have been done to your brethren. For we are but ash that the eternal flame produces.' The man looks out 'For whom will take themselves so we may proceed?' An elderly man dressed in dark robes, frayed at the ends with dust and dirt. The man reaches up with a metal spike and slams it into his cheek, freeing himself of the shackles that held his jaw shut as you can hear teeth breaking.

'I bestow you, Dear Atticus, the chalice of life - May you fill the cup full' The man holds the chalice above his head and turns to face them, his jaw creeks as if it has not spoken in decades. 'To our arm of vengeance, we bestow to you - life eternal'. The man lowers the chalice to a pedestal and cuts his own arm - the chalice fills quickly as the man slumps to the ground.

'Rise Azazel, drink of the chalice and be reborn new. The mantle of vengeance is upon you - may your feet land on the shoulders of giants as you carry out the plan of the great one. Let none stand in your path, let all whom forsake the teachings rot and wither. May you set the innocent free with the divine flame' The old man raises his arms as the clergy chants old speech. Azazel raises the chalice and drinks, the robes tainted red as the chalice sits back in the pedestal he is carried away, the thorns and robes torn off and he lay upon a table where several men dressed in blue are attaching the Jaw Shackle that was on the ground to his face. Now unable to speak he is given the same spike the man used to dismantle it.

'When a time comes that is fitting to our work, you will free your Jaw and speak your vengeance loud. May all who hear it perish with no trace.' As he opens his mouth, the jaw is now set, and he rises from the table.

---

Azazel is escorted by an elderly man to the rumbling pass. As he approaches the gate where the soldier is he stares down at him. Azazel is dressed in light grey runed robes, and appears to the soldier a heavily religious entity.

'This is the man the Decus has requested to investigate the death inside the first. A man of great importance to the province was murdered by heretics and swine.' The elderly man produces a valuable religious symbol and a writ of the clergy. It details him as a religious investigator sent to cohabitate with the inquisition to determine the cause of the death of a valued religious agent. Documents are vague as to whom was murdered but both men appear to be members of a clergy. Azazel is dressed in poorer clothing then the elderly man who refers to himself only as Matthias.

'If there are no questions, this man must be shuffled to the back quietly - none can know he is coming. As all who witness may be an agent of heretical nature.' Matthias folds his arms as Azazel begins to walk toward the train.
