Wara Taki

Post by Shards of Cymru » April 28th, 2022, 7:05 pm

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:

No.

Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two:
Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard?

The lion's share of my experience comes from TTRPG and text-based RP.

I would like to be involved in an immersive RP-enforced environment driven by story.

My expectations are relatively simple. I just want to write cool stories and collaborate with others.

What will your character’s name be?:
Wara Taki (Twilight Song)

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:

The Westerner could be said to be in his mid-to-late twenties, average in height, and boasts a small number of scars which sullies his otherwise appealing countenance. At a glance, Wara appears to be of sturdy build, with broad shoulders, a thick waist, and powerful limbs. His rich black hair is generally bound back, but can sometimes be seen crashing around his dark face in wild curls. He wears a silver thumb ring on his left hand, and another ring through his ear.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:

Young Tak has spent most of his twenties chasing work across the width and breadth of the Republic. In the beginning, he was a reliable guide through the wetlands of Niunas, and even the unforgiving landscape of the Godspine mountains; however, further east he had to rely less on the terrain and more on his skills as a survivalist in the form of teaching bushcraft skill. Yet, he found little kindness in the Midlands - - instead, suffering suspicion and (at times) outright hostility due to his obvious lineage.

Finally, he decided that the best means of survival would be to continue into the First Province and offer his skillset to those attempting to forge deeper into the lost lands beyond Fort Praesidium’s walls.

Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):

He is the son of El’azar Chazan and Asiri Wayta – a romance doomed from the beginning. You see, El’azar had been conscripted as part of the Republic’s waning military presence in the Western Territories. And, though he had no strong feelings of patriotism he went along willingly. Afterall, reluctant service was better than imprisonment or out-right execution.

El’azar found himself on orders with a number of other conscripts plucked from various settlements in Prodai. Their duty would be to maintain a pathetic chain of waypoints along the Godspine mountains to assist in the movement of the Republic’s assets. In other words, they were to ensure that the Republic could transport whatever scraps of Western wealth remained after the conquest.

El’azar couldn’t stomach the thought for very long, and after several months without requisitions or supply, he and several others deserted their post in the Mountains. It was in doing so that El’azar would meet Asiri. But, that story is for another time.

The two, without homes of their own, followed the stories of Nemus, a sort of haven for outcasts and outlaws, in the West. And, it was here that they would bring their son, Wara Taki, screaming into the world.

Unfortunately, the child would never know his mother or father. Fate can be cruel, and often is where the Western Territories are concerned. It wasn’t the Torment, nor the torrential weather that claimed them, but rather a sense of false hope that this was a new beginning for their new family. Inspired by stories of a separatist movement growing in the West, they traveled from their new home to attend a rally of former Legionnaires and Templar speaking of their ire, and of throwing off the Republic’s shackles.

But this hope… this Forlorn Hope… would be their undoing when the Republic caught wind of a rally near Ghaenthgrand. It was at one of these rallies that El’azar and Asiri were slaughtered for the high crime of listening to a man speak, leaving Wara Taki orphaned and alone.

Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:

A swift glance over his left shoulder drew Tak's dark gaze toward the distant horizon. Home was quite far away, but he could still turn back. Yet, he knew in his heart that it would not avail him. Instead, he turned back toward the long line and continued to shuffle forward.

His mind went back to the small fellowship he had come across on his way east. A half-dozen company men working as contractors for the Foundry. They had been given permission by local authorities to salvage a few burned out settlements in the name of the Republic's "reclamation" efforts. What they didn't realize was that some of these places weren't quite empty, and they needed some local help. That's where Tak came in. He didn't mind a little dirty work, and chasing off criminals that preyed on the weak was its own reward. Unfortunately, there were some losses along the way -- but, hey, a fresh pair of boots and some papers that opened a door or two was worth it.

“State your business and make it quick, citizen; we’ve enough bodies in there to keep us busy for years without adding yours to the pile, and those VIC are stirring up problems something fierce as of late.”

Tak's dark gaze drifted across the details of the officiant's face, searching. He could taste iron in his mouth. "Legitimate salvage..." He offered quietly, extending the papers he had taken off the dead Foundryman he had 'found like that' in the burned out settlement. A large cloth-wrapped hand patted the small satchel hanging from his waist, where a small number of tools clanked in protest. "Company needs some muscle. Got plenty." His voice was heavy, almost cumbersome, as he tried to keep his answers short and concise. "Work's work though, right?" He shrugged heavily, watching as the Officiant took his pilfered papers, and did his best not to seem all that interesting.
