Application for Tullius Eremita

Post by Tullius Eremita » January 26th, 2023, 7:48 am

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
Yes, four characters in total, three of which I played in the current chapter.

How did you hear about Requiem?
Via Google while searching for english enforced RP games/servers.

What will your character’s name be?
Tullius Eremita.

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
He's a rather short, balding man with a mild face, slightly roughtened up with a well groomed beard. Though "beard does not make a philosopher", his apparel seems to be pretty practical: his apron full of hidden sleeves and cleverly placed pockets. Unlike his body, the tools of his work clearly show signs of either neglection or some harsh, recent events that they took part in.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Tullius came to the First Province to research Torment firsthand, hoping to do so without too much influence of decusian Church, at least that what he officially claims.

Please provide a few short paragraphs with pertinent details or notable qualities of your character’s history. This does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret:
The Latin name betrays the noble origin of Tullius, but the doctor himself is reluctant to refer to it, avoiding the topic and glowing with a vague aversion to it. Born to a wealthy metallurgist and his Citizen wife, he was raised with two older sisters. One of them became a midwife, the other married into the family of the owner of a small fishing fleet in Kalastaa, thus cutting off contact with the rest of the family.

Young Tullius was not particularly fond of being raised in the rigid spirit of the Decusian faith, but for many years he lacked the courage to set boundaries - more for fear of his parents' disapproval than the ostracism of the other members of The Prelacy (with whom he also reluctantly identified) or the wrath of the Venerated Apothecary Corps. For years, his father promised him to finance his medical studies at the Varo Monastery, which, combined with the desire to explore the secrets of allopathy, put Tullius at a difficult crossroads.

"Constant dropping wears away a stone" - the Hermit of Redholme used to say, now a doctor. Over the years, Tullius' parents had come to believe the young medical student's arguments that "learning at Varo Monastery, so close to Alftwyn, would be more dangerous than a good source of research subjects." He effectively hoped that fear for their child would melt the parents' pragmatic hearts. Although he wanted to study outside the barony's borders, he agreed to a compromise - study at the University of Arbitrium. No less dangerous, but at least under the watchful eye of their employers and less religiously strict than the Athaerun outpost.

One can only imagine, how furious his father got, realizing that Tullius relocated straight into the mouth of the lion.

Please write a few short paragraphs of an in-character response to the following scenario:
As Tullius sat down in front of the obviously tired clerk, his confident expression faded. He suddenly realized that his lineage - however disdainful he was towards it - which might be a social bargaining chip, did not count at the gates of Hel itself. Different rules apply here.

- "Visa, go on, I don't have a whole fuckin' day for you losers." an employee in Republic ornaments reached out an impatient hand, as if to snatch something from the young doctor's hand. A hand clad in a studded leather glove baring only the fingers, presumably to better leaf through worthless papers and penny bribes.

"I'm a doctor. I'm here for rese..." Tullius began, slipping his visa and spreading his fingers so that there was a stamp confirming Prelacy's origin between them.

- "I couldn't care less, really. You're on your own when it comes to pick your reason to die here..." - gasped the clerk, without looking his petitioner in the eye. - "...if you're lucky." After reviewing the document for a moment, he looked at the pockets of Tullius's apron and glanced around the table where they were sitting. - "Something else?"

- "N-no... Did I forget something?"

- "Oh did you?" - one of the guards, standing to the side with his arms crossed, snorted with laughter, watching the situation with coarse satisfaction. The clerk let out a heavy sigh that bordered on a frustrated growl.

- "Torment won't recognize your bloodline or your titles. Death's more blind than decusian justice." - the office worker choked out with the last of his strength, whether casually or out of genuine contempt.

It wasn't until he waved Tullius away, as if to get him out of sight, that the young doctor noticed the swollen, ruddy fingers. "Heart problems, for sure," he thought, hoping his thought hadn't accidentally left his mouth.
