Application - 3rd Char - Hamish Duncamlas

Post by UncCre » May 4th, 2023, 12:03 am

PLAYER QUESTIONS: By applying, you are signaling to staff you have read the application, character and shard rules.

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
This will be a 3rd character. I've been very AFK the past few months and need some of those newb endorphins.

How did you hear about Requiem?
I played a previous iteration many years ago.

CHARACTER QUESTIONS
(Please note: Staff is looking for at least three lore references in your application when reviewing.)

What will your character’s name be?
Hamish Duncamlas

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
Tall, broad of shoulder, and the roguish face typical of the aged cliches of Athaerian lineage. He walks without limp and unpossessed of visible scarring, yet carries himself within the trappings of the Legion. Not particularly handsome, but an unmarred complexion combined with his somewhat noble bearing, he does have an attractive nature about him.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Unfulfilled from a life of boredom and inaction, Hamish has parted ways with the wealth and comforts of his Athaerian family to seek purpose and adventure in the First Province.

Please provide a few short paragraphs with pertinent details or notable qualities of your character’s history. This does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret:
Eighth grandson of a forgotten Vicar and third son of a well-regarded instructor of Allopathy, Hamish was poised to continue his family's legacy of Divine Officium perhaps as a healer or a spiritual leader… however, Decus' path offered different guidance. Amongst the civilianry, he may be regarded as relatively intelligent, but within the confines of his family and those of a similar social standing, his brawn came to be his trademark.
As a young man from a family of some standing, his tenure in the Legion was uneventful. Despite his surprisingly tactical mind, he was routinely assigned posts far from harm's way. His early postings consisted of standing watch from remote cliff forts overlooking the Pearl Sea anticipating an imagined enemy never to arrive, and later as a "promotion" given to escorting refugee caravans from Redholme to the borders of the First Province; the most action he'd ever seen was the skull of a drayer implode beneath a drox-drawn wagon wheel.
His cohort typically consisted of similarly privileged lesser sons counting down the days of their service until they'd retire to manage their fathers' summer homes or vineyards. Hamish had different ideas; he was still young, and despite an easy ride, the rigors of the Legion had still sculpted an impressive build from him. He was eager to hunt down the adventure his postings had sorely lacked.

Please write a few short paragraphs of an in-character response to the following scenario:

The officiant snorts in disdain, then adds the last line to the rehearsed monologue:
“State your business and make it quick, citizen; we’ve enough bodies in there to keep us busy for years without adding yours to the pile, and those VIC are stirring up problems something fierce as of late.”
You ponder the situation for a moment, evaluating your options. It is well known that with the right connections and the right amount of coin, one can get their hands on a Quarantine Visa from any one of the major Factions or Prelacy Families of the Republic, or even a passable counterfeit from more nefarious sources. At the same time, it would appear that the officiant doesn’t appear to be above some simple bribery – although his price may be hefty. However, despite it all, you’re sure that some of those let in appeared to have made a convincing case with the officiant without resorting to subterfuge or immorality. Gathering your wits, you step forward towards the officiant, and make your decision as to how to gain access to the First Province.
Not breaking gaze, Hamish passed the visa to the officiant. Noting the additional heft of the parceled vellum, the officiant cautiously broke the seal and slyly pocketed the coin that slid out. After looking over the visa, the officiant returned to Hamish with a confused glare.
"Is there a reason I should be suspect, Citizen? This all seems in good order."
Not a classically handsome face, but the sly grin was certainly charming. Hamish nodded toward the throngs of refugee, those who've already provided their satisfactory visas.

"No' takin' chances getting' through; let's see about the head o' the line, aye?" he said through a soft smile while fingering a small coin purse dangling from his belt in a very obvious manner.

"This way, Citizen."
