Pass an error message back when a player uses a [ command that isn't on the list.
This way people aren't inadvertently speaking commands aloud when they misspell or misremember them.

I fully agree with this, more than once I tried to hit a command when interacting with other characters and it sort of breaks the flow when the wrong command floats as a message. Sure, we can circumvent this by use of the custom icons (a good idea for the most used commands) but it wouldn't hurt adding a security layer to prevent the ugly brackets from appearing in the world.
