Application for Lucius Tenebrus

Post by revenant » December 13th, 2020, 11:56 am

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:
Yes, I’ve played a few different iterations of Req beginning in Act III. Most recently I have played Alphonse, the late Inquisitor Albus Black, Grigor, and the poor reporter Phineas.
Briefly summarize your prior role-playing experience in a sentence or two:
I’ve played various p&p games, gravitated towards RP-inclined online games, and run a campaign or two.
Why do you wish to play on Requiem, and what do you expect from the shard?
It’s a great shard with a great aesthetic and player-base. I expect the shard to be fun, I expect a certain maturity from my peers, and I hope to contribute the same.
What will your character’s name be?:
Lucius Tenebrus
Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:
The remnants of good-looks still cling to the aged man’s frame. His silver hair and beard are both close-cropped. Lines reflecting a former mirth have been etched around his eyes and mouth, though his gaunt face now seems shrouded in a forlorn air. He’s calloused hands bely a life of industry which has kept him from developing the paunch of his years. His brow is heavy and often knotted as though he contemplates the troubles of the world.
Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:
Lucius’s arrival in the First Province is not entirely of his own making. Presented with two options, he chose the one with less incarceration and certain demise. He has come to the First Province with industry and salvation on his mind and hopes to find redemption and to provide respite for the weary, downtrodden, and lost.
Briefly provide a pertinent detail or notable quality of your character’s history (this does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret):
Lucius, once a member of the Foundry, found solace in his work. A man of science and industry, he found joy in creation, innovation, and invention. He did well for a man of humble origins and enjoyed a few accolades within the organization having forwarded many works and writings around chemics and mechanics. Having worked on missions in the far flung reaches of Vitaveus, Lucius had spent his middle years working the sewers, after all one can only be civilized if one does not frolic in one’s own shite. More recently, having run afoul of proper decorum, Lucius was presented with an ultimatum – head to the First Province and live out the remainder of his days providing support as needed to those other poor and intrepid souls and pray for redemption, or find himself in a small cell awaiting the gallows. After all, having spent his early life on the frontiers and his later years understanding the excrement (both physical and metaphorical) of the Republic and the secrets therein.
Briefly write an in-character response to the following scenario:

You have finally arrived at your destination; the Rumbling Pass checkpoint. Before you stands a massive outpost, looking to have been erected only recently, of which is patrolled by numerous Legionnaires and Church Templar. The outpost guards the only viable entrance to the recently quarantined First Province; the home of Tor, the fallen capital of the Republic. Sitting at the foot of the massive mountain line that effectively contains the First Province within, the outpost serves as the last obstacle you must overcome before gaining entry into the quarantined territory. You and others like you assemble outside of the palisades of the outpost, awaiting the opportunity to speak your case to the presiding Legion officiant who is processing admittance to the Province.
You watch as but a scant few of the dozens that approach the officiant, whom stands at the outer gates of the outpost flanked by a few heavily armored Legionnaires, are actually allowed to pass through the man-door and into the outpost. You see some slip pieces of gold to the officiant, while others plead their cases and rationale as to why they should be allowed to enter the recently fallen territory. Some appear to provide some sort of paperwork to the officiant, whom promptly waves them through. While eavesdropping, you manage to overhear the well-rehearsed speech the officiant provides to those whom don’t provide paperwork or grease his palm.
“By decree of the Venerated Church, the First Province is considered to be a mortal health hazard, and as such, is quarantined under Article Eighteen of the Republic Treatise of Health Act of 1320. Citizens who do not possess a Quarantine Visa issued by one of the recognized Factions of the Republic are considered non-essential to the reclamation of the First Province. Under Article Eighteen, non-essentials seeking entry into an official quarantine zone must petition for entry into a said zone, and state just cause for the issuing of a visa by the perimeter authority. State your business and make it good, citizen; we’ve enough bodies in there to keep us busy for months without adding yours to the pile.”
You ponder the situation for a moment, evaluating your options. It’s well known that with the right connections and the right amount of coin, one can get their hands on a Quarantine Visa from any one of the major Factions of the Republic, or even a passable counterfeit from more nefarious sources. At the same time, it would appear that the officiant doesn’t appear to be above some simple bribery. However, you’re sure that some of those let in appeared to have made a convincing case with the officiant. Gathering your wits, you make your decision as to how to gain access to the First Province.
Lucius looked at the bureaucrat across the table, a mix of disdain and nonchalance on Lucius’s face. He reached into the travel worn cloak and produced the document, a Foundry seal affixed to the bottom. The man across the table looked equally nonplussed and took the document and the accompanying letter with a brief scan. “Says here you’re on probate. Must’ve really pissed someone important off…hmm…and had a friend or two that mattered.”
The officiant gave Lucius another once over. It made sense, the man was dressed simply, after all who wears their best when they muck out the sewers and deal with the vermin (again, both literal and metaphorical). Lucius knew the text had a note obliging him to perform a favor for the note-bearer at a time and place of their choosing (provided, of course, that the execution of said task fell within his reasonable competencies). The officiant handed the note to a runner who was sent away, hopefully taking it to someone higher up.
“Profession?” the officiant asked.
“Handy-man,” Lucius responded.
The officiant jotted down a line. “Think you’re going to last long here old-timer?”
“Depends on the work I s’pose,” Lucius responded.
Then he leveled his eyes towards the officiant waiting for his leave or to be turned around and sent to the back of the line.

Welcome to Requiem!

"Plenty of work for those havin' a death-wish." The runner returns whispering something briefly in the officiant's ear before he continues. "Go on then." He waves you past. "NEXT!"
