I have no idea if that was such discussion before but i would like to suggest chaning the way passive animus is gained.
For now you have:
Base animus (granted even if log off)
Kindling bonus(granted if you are in log in)
Safe location(granted if you are in a city)
Average you can get 1 animus per hour by afking. Many many people use script to stay, eat, and drink all day to get such huge animus boost and i dont blame them. I am blaming the system.
I was trying many times to talk to someone who just afk all day and that was irritating.
Do we really want a system that encourage us to afk and not RP?
What i do suggest.
1. Reduce kindling bonus and give it also to log off characters
2. Replace city infusion bonus and replace it with RP system that reward us for just simple talking and not demanding "be in a city".
How it would work:
System will count your talking and emoting (i would give bonus if other players are nerby) and give you extra influance for animating the world.
It will not only making afking pointless idea. It will ENCOURAGE people to animate the world, to talk(not only in city), to have fun with each other and because of this activity to improve your character. Isn't that great idea?
Lets talk: Gain Animus by speaking not afking
Re: Lets talk: Gain Animus by speaking not afking
you also can get bonus animus for RP
looks like all fine work at the moment - stimulate players to be ingame and in fort

Re: Lets talk: Gain Animus by speaking not afking
I don't believe people AFKing hurts anyone. It incentivizes people to stay online even if they are not available to actively interact with characters, keeping player numbers up and appearances of more people in the Fort. I think this is a good thing, and not actively harming the shard.
Re: Lets talk: Gain Animus by speaking not afking
As someone who RPs a character who doesn't talk much (and who experiences pain when doing so), not a fan of this idea . I think it might also punish sneaky-type characters who are spying on others and such.
I like the current system well enough. The events that give bonuses are nice and pretty cool if you haven't been to any of those.

Hello, just dropping my two cents here if I may
I don't think the system should be changed, though I do think staying ingame AFK should not be allowed for the simple reason: You are breaking character (Not roleplaying, which is mandatory in this server).
Someone comes by and say hello to your character, he is most likely going to answer, interact. If you are AFK you wont which wont really fit what your character would do. The town is burning, everybody running for their lives, you just stand there and do nothing, again, not something your character would do. Someone throws shit at your face, you do nothing. That is not roleplaying, that is not what the server is about and fake numbers wont really help the server. This is not blizzard trying to sell their games are still popular, this will do nothing for us but get new people to quit because all they see are people staying afk.
There is the counter argument saying that there is the danger of staying ingame. Sure, there is always the chance of something happening but if you notice most will just stop beside a guard and most likely without a single thing in their pockets besides food and water (and if you consider they are using macro while afk to keep themselves fed it goes againt the afk-macro rule) therefore the chances are very slim of something happening that will make them regret doing it.
Staying ingame AFK is all about farming and seeking power and nothing about roleplay, which again, is what this server is about.

Re: Lets talk: Gain Animus by speaking not afking
Let's get down to brass tacks here:
As Furio says, it ruins roleplay immersion.
Secondly also as Furio (essentially) says, the suggestion that there is any risk, danger etc involved for these players is not at all an accurate or adequate portrayal of the situation.
Where is the danger in sitting AFK in fort prae in front of a guard with a macro drinking and eating for you? It is literally AFK macroing. I have seen the same person in the fort prae bank for 2 days straight in the same place, unmoving, does not respond to RP, just harvesting up animus. If this is the intended direction and purpose of the mechanic/shard, I would ask for staff clarification so that I may too begin AFK macroing active animus gains. I'll set it up before I leave for work.

Re: Lets talk: Gain Animus by speaking not afking
I think an afk timer should be added to log people off. It would solve two things 1) when I forget to log off, it will log me off 2) it will stop these people from just sitting around logged off. It does break immersion. Unless we make the Fort less safe then, which I am cool with too. People AFK and they take the risk of being hog-tied and dragged out of the fort and used for ransom.

Just lure the guards away while a friend steals their water.
