New Character: Victor Magnus

Do you have any prior experience with Requiem? If so, please detail when (and what characters, if desired) you previously played:

Yes! Loving it.

What will your character’s name be?

Victor Magnus

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:

Victor is tall, in his late thirties. His sandy blonde hair and light blue eyes tell a story of a once-gentle man who has weathered hardship and conflict, and still carries the burden of those experiences with him. His left forearm is scarred from bite marks, wounds long healed but never forgotten.

He often wears a stern expression, but when he chooses to relax, his slight smile and friendly presence puts those around him at ease.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:

Victor has started his life over several times, but his past has always caught up with him. Presently, he finds himself leaving behind a town in which he helped build many of the structures over the past decade. The locals he once thought of as casual friends, had turned suspicious of his reclusive behavior and began to blame him for many of the troubles that had recently come upon the town.

Packing up his things in an old wagon, Victor set out for the First Province. His goal... find a quiet place where he could build his own home. He wasn't afraid of trouble from the dead, he'd scrapped with them often enough to know how to handle himself. He hoped he could start over one last time, somewhere far enough away that the troubles of his youth would not continue to find him.

Please provide a few short paragraphs with pertinent details or notable qualities of your character’s history. This does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret:

Victor's father was a well known engineer, helping to build several smaller outposts and villages along the outskirts of Lake Volg. His last expedition ended in disaster, and as the torment overrun their staging area and Victor's father was killed.

His mother shacked up with a man named Hadrus, the local houndmaster. Hadrus was not kind to Victor. The young gentle boy loved to read books, tinker with engineering toys, and practice with the violin. Hadrus thought he was weak and useless, and decided he needed to force the boy to toughen up.

Hadrus would make Victor feed the wildest of his Volgen Retrievers and often forced him to take on the more dangerous parts of their training. At first, Victor was terrified of the hounds. They were vicious, and left him bloody and wounded more often than not. Over time, however, they boy learned to take control of his own fear and in turn learned how to handle the vicious dogs.

Hadrus had a deal with some local bandits, and would let them use his hounds when they were out pillaging the land. On several occasions, Hadrus went with them and dragged Victor along, forcing him to help in robbing innocents.

After years of abuse, one night when things were particulary bad, Victor snapped. He rallied the hounds, now loyal to him, and directed them to kill Hadrus. The man laughed in outrage, but quickly realized he had lost his influence over the hounds... and they overran him and tore him to pieces.

That night, Victor snuck out of town. The authorities discovered the connection between Hadrus and the local bandits, and labeled Victor as an outlaw and murderer.

Victor was on the run for years, and would never stay too long in the same place. The authorities did not aggresively hunt him, but tales were told of the boy who killed his father and used a pack of Volgen Retrievers to terrorize the countryside. As time went on, and the bandit attacks continued to plauge people, Victor's embelished tale became a story passed around from village to village.

As time passed, he finally settled down in a small town near the Ostenam border. He'd lived there for almost a decade before trouble found him again. This time he decided to cross into the First Province, hoping his past would not follow him there.

Please write a few short paragraphs of an in-character response to the following scenario:

Victor approached the train station with a steady, confident stride. His stern expression and watchful gaze discouraging small talk from those around him. He scanned faces, hoping that he would not see anyone he recognized.

A young man bumped into him, and Victor reached out and grabbed the boy's wrist. The boy was holding Victor's coin pouch. With his free hand, Victor took the pouch back, and placed it into a safer pocket inside his vest. He pulled the young man towards him, and stared into his eyes.

"You choose what you do with your life, boy." He whispered softly, his voice calm and cold. "Unless you cross me again. Then I will choose for you. Do you understand me?"

The boy nodded, eager to get away, but Victor held him there a moment under his gaze - making sure the young man was sufficiently rattled.

"NEXT!" called the official, waving Victor forward.

Victor released the boy's wrist, and stepped forward without looking back.

He listened patiently to the man's speach, and responded with a friendly grin.

"I couldn't be more excited to help reclaim the First Province." He spoke, calmly.

"I've got my visa here..." Victor opened his scroll case, and pulled out an elaborately detailed parchment and handed it to the man. He had spent several nights painstakinly working to ensure his forged the document would pass.

"Yes, yes." The man took the doc, barely looked at it, then held out his other hand expectantly.

Victor reached out and shook the official's hand, and an amused playful smile crossed his face.

"Thank you, friend. I'll be on my way now." And he turned and boarded the train. When he glanced back, he saw the annoyed expression on the offical's face as he tossed the fake visa into a pile behind him.
