As the game system currently stands, a character can get buffs from spells, potions, food and hematology injections and the duration of the buffs vary depending on the method used.
I think that the duration from the first three methods are appropriate. (I especially like the bonuses from exceptional foods) however I feel that the hematology injections need to last quite a lot longer to make them worthwhile, especially considering the effort and materials (syringes, blood, hematology kit) required to craft them.
I believe an injection composed of 10 vials should last in the neighborhood of 2-4 hours, perhaps scaled according to the Allopathy skill of the crafter.
The current duration (which is more or less 5 minutes) is just not worth the effort…
