Character Application: Desmond Diggory

Post by Silvrmonkey » November 6th, 2022, 1:57 am

Please briefly describe the physical attributes of your character, including age, looks, height, weight and any notable features:

The figure that approaches you appears to be just under six feet tall. He bears the build of a man who is no stranger to discipline, his body being that of a younger man well into his prime. If it were not for the crow’s feet and wrinkles that plagued his features, his face could be described as boyish. His eyes are a shade of navy blue, that illuminate deep emotions of grief.

Briefly state your character’s intentions or motivations for entering the First Province:

Desmond was sent to the First Province to eradicate a menacing threat within its lands.

Please provide a few short paragraphs with pertinent details or notable qualities of your character’s history. This does not have to be exhaustive nor revealing of any information you wish to keep secret:

Desmond was born on the outskirts of the First Coast, near Kedian. Orphaned as a child, he was taken in by a local monastery. There he was brought up in teachings of the Decusian faith. He learned literature, scripture, and the basics of philosophy and medical healing. Desmond was content with his life, but always wondered what if?

Few years passed, and an envoy of the Venerated Inquisition arrived at the monastery’s doors. They requested a man of Decus to assist in their investigation of a Heston village that seems to be impervious to the Torment. The young Desmond took this opportunity and volunteered to aid the bold adventurers.

The journey granted Desmond all the wonders he hoped for. He saw first hand the Torian Legion’s outposts within Virrenul. Their advancements in industry far past anything he ever witnessed at the monastery. As they ventured into Heston, Desmond walked through the most beautiful field of poppy flowers he could ever dream of.

As they reached the rumored village, they were greeted with welcoming arms by the local elders. The men were housed and invited to attend a feast, they accepted. After much food and plenty of wine, the travelers were ambushed and detained by the pagans. Locked up to be sacrificed or tortured, they did not know.

A theatrical display of Decus’ denouncement was planned for the prisoners. Not one Decusian turned on their faith, and thus the pagans began executing them. One by one, they began picking prisoners at random to be crucified before the crowd. If it were not for Desmond who had lesser restraints, being seen less as a threat by the pagans. He was able to assist in releasing the Inquisitor in charge, which enabled a revolt.

Following the battle, the Venerated Inquisition purged the Heston village, securing their elder as their prisoner. Desmond was never the same. In the years that followed Desmond’s heart turned cold, in the shadow of his grief he found hate, and that in Decus’ name he took up the sword and vengeance became his creed. He joined the ranks of the Venerated Inquisition. Desmond would go on to fight in the Three Hour War, before fleeing with the other VIC forces. Afterwards, he was stationed within Penitence Valley.

Please write a few short paragraphs of an in-character response to the following scenario:

“You are to travel forth to the First Province, and seek out any leads on the Resolve and Torment. Eliminate any threats you deem necessary, for the safety of the Decusian population. And remember, you are no longer of the Venerated Inquisition. Until your mission is successful, then you shall return an Inquisitor deserving of Decus’ grace.”

He said as he placed a wrinkled hand onto Desmond’s pauldron. Desmond regarded the hand briefly as it rose from his shoulder, exposing a tattoo of an eye on his palm. Desmond glanced down at his own identical tattoo, warding off evil or so that’s what their purpose was. Desmond stood from kneeling and offered the old man a single nod before turning to leave. He knew his orders, he knew what he had to do. On his way out, Desmond received a piece of parchment bearing the Inquisitor's seal.

As Desmond arrived at the Rumbling Pass, he wasn’t the least bit surprised at the conditions of the area. It stank of foul odors beyond compare, sinister characters of the lowest breed, and water that would make a man defecate oneself until death. He waited in line for nearly two days before reaching the official.

The official examined Desmond for a moment before proceeding with his routine.

“Got a visa quarantine pass?”

Wasting no time Desmond procured the visa for the official to review and added.

“I’m here to spread the teachings of Decus."
