The Legacy of Death Wish Pies
The night was warm and full of possibility. The museum was hosting a lecture to accompany a curated exhibit and it was well attended by both familiar and new faces. One man in the crowd stood out.
Ealdwyn had looked unwell all evening and seemed to have trouble following the narration. "That thing about them kings confused me," he volunteered. "Can you talk more so I can understand?"
Then Ara burst onto the scene bubbling with excitement. "I brought snacks!" She proceeded to hand out some magnificent meat pies that were roundly admired by all present.
"This actually looks bloody delicious," one of the more skeptical attendees was heard to say.
Ealdwyn devoured the enormous pie in a matter of moments and immediately started looking around for a second helping. That next pie simply could not fit in his ailing body and after eating it, his expression suddenly changed and he began to cough until he fainted.
The assembled group ministered to him as best they could but the man became unresponsive. His lips turned blue and his breathing all but stopped until an odd voice tickled at the far reaches of everyone's conscious mind. And so it came to pass that on that forlorn day a refugee perished. May his Requiem be sung across the lands, until the end of days.
The one thing everyone agreed on was that the man died happy after eating that delicious pie.
And so with that man's passing, Death Wish Pies was born.
