Requiem's Calendar of Months

Time in Requiem is 1:1 to real-world time. Days are 1:1 with the months of the year. But the day/night cycle happens three times a real-life day to ensure players regardless of timezone can experience the unique features the night cycle offers in-game.

The year in game is currently 1348 A.S.

Nighttime in the First Province is a dangerous time. Characters receive a stat debuff when it is dark. Furthermore, you're more likely to run into dangerous enemies out in the wilderness.

The Decusian calendar has been in use within Vitaveus upon the First Apostle’s landfall in the First Province and gradually adopted throughout the continent over centuries. Its origins however date back to the days of Temple, when the Epoch of Enlightenment began upon Decus descending into Eden.

The calendar is organized between 7-day weeks within 12 months over the typical course of 365 days which comprise the year it takes for Eden to revolve around the Flame. All days within a week are named by the order in which they arrive: first through seventh in the High Decusian language. Months alternate between a maximum of 30 or 31 days with one exception.

The month of Chilldawn has 28 days with an extra day added every 4 years; which brings that year to 366 days. In 446 AS, scholars calculated the extra day to rebalance the calendar, as it was observed Eden does not travel around the Flame within exactly 365 days; it actually takes an additional 6 hours.

A day consists of 24 hours, with Eden passing through instances of sunlight and its absence every 8 hours. This means every day consists of three sunrises and three sunsets. This measure of a day was determined by humanity’s natural labor, downtime, and sleep cycles; as all other creatures of Eden are held to the passing of the Flame. The first set of 12 hours is referred to as AM (Ante Margo) while the second set as PM (Post Margo). Margo refers to the midday margin (noon) as the halfway point into the next day.
