The Codex overviews almost every bit of information there is to know about your character. Basically when in doubt, check the Codex.

You can access the Codex by either clicking the “codex” button on your paperdoll or using command [Codex.

Your paperdoll is opened by double clicking your character in game, or hotkey Alt+P:

The Looks page is where you may view the Avater image and enter in descriptions of your character.

Here you will be able to view your characters avatar portrait (selected upon character creation) as well as view and edit your characters description that others can read when using [look on you.

Here you can see your characters general physical conditions including hunger, thirst, and injuries. You can keep an eye on these conditions by using the command

[checkinjuries

Some injuries wear off in time, but the way to cure them quick is to be treated by a doctor.

This page also overviews your current stats. By selecting open menu you can spend your stat points. choosing to purchase points will cost animus.

your number of stat points to spend increases over time, so if you feel you've made a mistake in your build you can always course-correct. The stat cap is 400.

The Icon tab of your Codex is especially helpful in creating custom hotkey macros for use in-game. These hotkeys can be assigned up to five separate lines of text entry, including emotes, speech, and [commands.
